Green Building
Ewing Building & Remodeling uses environmentally friendly practices and products in all our construction projects. These methods can lower your heating and cooling bills, provide a healthier home, and reduce the impact on the environment. We continue to educate ourselves, our employees and our clients – so that we can actively make our homes safe, efficient and comfortable without harming our environment.
Some of our methods to achieve these goals are:
Energy Efficiency
- Use of advanced insulation products
- Sealing of the exterior walls with house wrap, caulk and gaskets to reduce air inflitration
- High efficiency, on-demand and insulated water heaters
- Energy efficient windows and doors
- Energy Star rated appliances and fixtures
- Efficient heat and air conditioning systems, advanced sealing of ductwork, programmable thermostats and heat zones
- Design and site planning
Conserving Natural Resources
- Advanced framing techniques can use up to 30% less lumber
- Use of engineered wood products such as floor and roof trusses and beams
- Fiber cement siding – the wood fibers are reclaimed or harvested from small fast growing species, plus the siding is a durable product
- Brick produces very little waste when manufactured, has a long life, and can be recycled
- Porous pavers or loose stone driveways and sidewalks reduce storm water runoff
- Recycling of materials from demolition
- Recycling of building waste materials
- Facilitate homeowner recycling by designing recycling bins and cabinetry
Indoor Air Quality
- Air tight construction creates a need for mechanical ventilation such as fresh air intakes to fireplaces and heat recovery systems
- Use of low-VOC paints and finishes reduce airborne toxins
- Use of low-pile carpet or less allergen-attracting carpet and pad can improve indoor air quality
